The Home In Which I Tried This
Overview
400+ repurposed screenshots sourced from the Jackass TV show removed from context and void of people. The images are arranged into a montage of hazy, digital noise oscillating between form and abstraction. The images function as non-spaces; liminal conduits which serve no purpose but transition between focus. The video drudges at a glacial pace, images distort and amalgamate into one another through staggered crossfades, a humming visual dirge aglow. A digital spectre haunts the language of memory; the ubiquity of cultural landmarks like MTV would be echoed through the early digital spaces. Programs like Jackass would not only be replicated physically, but so too the videos themselves - through perpetual iteration, compression artifacts and digital distortion would increasingly become indivisible from the image of culture. The aesthetics of virality and memetics were tethered to the digital, visual memory indivisible from the screen-based contexts which perpetuated it.
