Overview

The Discoverer, The Freemason and The Justice are 3 audio visual works realised for Encuentro Tsonami in Valparaíso, Chile 2019. The works are portraits of three statues significant for Valparaíso: the statue of Cristopher Colombus, a Freemason figure and the unblinded statue of Justice. The three works are created using a similar method: as if listening with a stethoscope or measuring the temperature of a human body, Kirkegaard used sensors (accelerometers) placed on the surfaces of each statue. Determined by their respective material and size, and evoked by the surrounding traffic, voices or demonstrations each body’s unique resonant tones were revealed.
